1. Short Project Description
This document is an installer guide that describes how a Zap device is connected and onboarded to an already installed and operational Ambibox system.
The guide is intended as a step-by-step starting point for certified installers and focuses on:
Physical configuration of the Zap device
Onboarding via the Sourceful app
Connecting the Zap and Ambibox charger
2. Prerequisites (Before You Start)
Ambibox is installed, powered, and operational
Car settings are set to Bidirectional Charging
Electrical installation complies with applicable Swedish regulations (ELSÄK, SS 436 40 00)
Internet connectivity is available on site
You are logged in to the Sourceful App
3. Step-by-Step: Connecting the Zap Device
Step 1: Follow the Onboarding guide
Make sure you onboard your energy meter using our Meter configuration guide.
Step 2: Connect and configure the Ambibox
Video:
Once you've onboarded the Electricity Meter, go to Settings in the top right
Choose Add device - > V2X charger
Step 3: Configure the Chargebox with MQTT
Select Ambibox and then MQTT
Default Host should be sid-os.local and Port should be 1883
Press Continue
Troubleshooting:
If connection fails – Failed to connect to MQTT broker
Make sure the Ambibox chargers is online and on the same customer network
Step 4: Add a Vehicle
Connect a Vehicle and "Add a new EV"
Pick a name for the Vehicle
Assign the correct info and status
Pick a time of day when the Vehicle shall be fully charged (optional)
Step 5: Configure the EMS
Enter the Optimiser section
Make sure the Site settings are correct and the Daily usage is estimated
Setup pricing and any additional costs (can vary between providers)
Select Minimum/Maximum charge for the Vehicle. (min 20%, max 80%)
Double check everything and select "Activate Optimiser")
You can visit the Optimiser section and setup a Peak Shaving plan (optional)
Zap is now used as the metering source for the Ambibox and Sourceful EMS.
4. Verification of Functionality
Verify that:
Every 15 minutes the Optimiser Plan is updated, based on prices and predicted energy usage
Ambibox appears as a connected device
No error messages are present
5. Customer Handover
Step 1: Select the household
Press More to open the menu.
Under Household, select the household you want to transfer from the dropdown.
Press More again to close the menu, then go to Settings and open the Danger Zone tab.
Step 2: Choose your role after the transfer
Select the role you want to keep after the household has been transferred:
Admin – View and configure devices after transfer. Recommended for installers.
Operator – View data and reconfigure existing devices.
Viewer – View incoming data only. Suitable for household members.
Remove Me – Permanently removes you from the household. You can still be invited again later.
Step 3: Set an expiry date (optional)
You can set an expiry date for the transfer code. This only controls how long the code remains valid. It does not remove your access to the household when the code expires.
Step 4: Generate the transfer code
Press Generate Code. A code will appear in the format ABCD-EFGH-IJKL-MNOP. Share this code with the new owner so they can complete the transfer.
Note: Each code can only be used once. Generating a new code immediately invalidates the previous code.
Step 5: User is transferred into the Household
The new owner logs into the app and is presented with the option to join a household.
Select Use an invitation code.
Enter the transfer code provided by the installer in the format ABCD-EFGH-IJKL-MNOP.
Once the code is accepted, you will gain access to the household and its associated devices.
Important
Once the household is onboarded and transferred, we strongly recommend any new user to checkout our get-started user guides. Filter by "EV Charging" to find all the guides related to V2X.

FAQS
Should I monitor my charging through the car manufacturer's app or Sourceful?
The Sourceful App is the app you should use to monitor and control your charging with Ambibox. We've found that car manufacturers' own apps — such as Volkswagen's — sometimes display error messages even when the charger is working correctly. This is usually because the charger is paused while waiting for spot price-optimised charging from Sourceful. In the Sourceful App, we have access to electricity meter data and can display accurate charging power, battery status, and any genuine error messages. It's therefore where you'll get the most reliable picture of what's actually happening with your charging.
How do I stop charging?
If you need to interrupt an active charging session at the car, press the round silver button on the front of the charger. You may also need to unlock the car with your key in order to disconnect the charging cable. You can also pause charging via the Sourceful app. When you do this, the charger will remain at 0.2 kW for approximately two minutes to maintain communication between the car and the charger, before dropping to 0 kW.
Why doesn't the car start charging or discharging immediately?
Unlike a standard home battery, electric vehicles have a longer startup sequence. When charging or discharging begins, the charger first settles at 0.2 kW for around 10–20 seconds before the selected power level kicks in. This applies whether you start manually or whether Sourceful's optimiser is controlling the session automatically. This is normal behaviour and nothing to be concerned about.
How do I charge the car to 100%?
Start by setting the car to "Charge now" mode via the car's menu system — on Volkswagen MEB-platform vehicles, you'll find this in the charging settings. Then open the Sourceful app and start charging manually under the Vehicle tab. The car will then charge to 100% at the power level you've selected.
