The Sourceful Zap supports two connection methods for Huawei inverters: Modbus TCP (via SDongle and network) and Modbus RTU (via RS485 direct wiring). These are mutually exclusive — the dongle must be disconnected when using RTU.

Modbus TCP Configuration
Login as installer (default password: 00000a )
Navigate to: Settings → Communication Configuration → Dongle Parameter Settings → Modbus-TCP
Select appropriate access mode:
Unrestricted: Allows all LAN devices (one at a time)Restricted: Requires setting trusted IP addressDisabled: No Modbus access
Important Notes
Configuration settings persist through power cycles
New inverters require fresh configuration
SDonglereplacement doesn't require reconfigurationKeep

To verify your Modbus TCP connection is working, see How do I know if Modbus TCP is activated on my inverter?
Modbus RTU (via RS485)
Note: Modbus RTU requires disconnecting the SDongle. With the dongle disconnected, the connection to FusionSolar is lost. Do not reconnect the dongle while the system is in operation.
Prerequisites
Sourceful Zap
Shielded twisted pair cable
Only one inverter is supported — the inverter must not be cascaded with another inverter. If such a connection exists, disconnect it before installation.
Wiring
Zap Side
Strip one end of the twisted pair cable. Use the green pair:
Connect green wire to the Zap A+ terminal
Connect green/white wire to the Zap B- terminal
Inverter Side
Ensure the dongle is disconnected before connecting.
Connect to the COM port on the bottom of the inverter:
Green wire → terminal 1 (485A1-1)
Green/white wire → terminal 3 (485B1-1)
Troubleshooting
Modbus TCP
If Modbus settings are not visible:
Check firmware versions
Update app if necessary
Verify
SDonglecompatibility
Connection Problems
If unable to connect:
Ensure SDongle is powered
Stay within WiFi range
Verify correct password
Access Issues
If experiencing access problems:
Check IP restrictions if enabled
Verify only one client is connecting
Confirm network settings are correct
Modbus RTU
If RS485 communication is not working:
Verify the dongle is disconnected
Ensure the inverter is not cascaded with another inverter
Double-check COM port terminal connections (terminal 1 and 3)
Ensure all cable connections are firmly seated
