If you're looking to connect your Zap to your energy meter, follow these steps to successfully connect your Zap and start sending data to the Sourceful Network.
Step 1: Enable P1 Port Data on Your Energy Meter
Before connecting your Zap, ensure the P1 port data is enabled on your meter:
Contact your energy provider to activate the P1 port
This is often free but may require a service request
Some providers enable it remotely, others send a technician
Step 2: Connect Your Zap to the P1 Port
Locate the P1 port on your energy meter
Usually behind a small cover
Labeled "P1", "Customer", or "User"
RJ12 size (like old telephone jack)
Connect the cable
Use the included RJ12 cable
Connect one end to your meter's P1 port
Connect other end to Zap's P1 Input Port (on the side with USB-C)
Cable should click firmly into place
Step 3: Check the Zap's LED Lights
After connecting, you should see:
Green Power LED: Lights up on the input side (same side as USB-C). On newer Zaps the RJ12 input port itself lights up.
Blue Status LED: Lights up on the output side (next to the button)
The two blue LEDs have different purposes:
Status LED (next to button): Shows WiFi/setup status
Data LED (far from button): Shows data reception. On newer Zaps the RJ12 output port itself lights up.
Step 4: Verify Data Transfer
Check that your meter is sending data:
Watch the Data LED (blue LED away from the button)
Should blink every 10 seconds (typical interval)
If no blinking after 1 minute:
P1 port may not be activated
Check cable connection
Contact your utility provider
Step 5: Start Sending Data to the Sourceful Network
Once you see the Data LED blinking:
Open the Sourceful Energy App
Enable Bluetooth on your phone
Add Device in the app
Stay close to Zap during setup (within 1 meter)
Follow app instructions to:
Find your Zap
Claim the zap to your account and set its location.
Connect to WiFi (2.4GHz only)
Complete onboarding
After successful setup:
Bluetooth automatically disconnects
Zap switches to WiFi mode
Data flows to Sourceful Network
Status LED shows double-blink pattern
What Success Looks Like
When fully connected and working:
β Green Power LED: Solid on
β Blue Data LED: Blinks every ~10 seconds
β Blue Status LED: Double-blink pattern
β App: Shows real-time energy data
