Zap P1-meter Compability

The Sourceful Energy Zap can connect to your smart meter in different ways depending on your meter's interface. Here's what you need to know about each connection type.

Supports most modern meters in Europe!

Countries where P1 ports are available and Zap shipping is supported:

🇦🇹 Austria 🇱🇹 Lithuania
🇧🇪 Belgium 🇱🇺 Luxembourg
🇩🇰 Denmark 🇳🇱 Netherlands
🇫🇮 Finland 🇵🇹 Portugal
🇭🇺 Hungary 🇸🇪 Sweden
🇮🇪 Ireland

We've created a guide to help you identify your connection type, but for absolute certainty, we recommend contacting your utility company if your meter has RJ12 or RJ45 connection.

If you live in a country (not listed above) and can verify that your utility meter has an RJ12 or RJ45 port, please contact us at support@sourceful.energy. We would greatly appreciate your input in expanding our compatibility to new countries.

1. Standard P1 Connection (RJ12)

Most Common Configuration

  • Standard port interface (RJ12-port with 6-pin) on most modern smart meters.
  • Requires Zap for RJ12/P1 Meters.
  • Works immediately out of the box. No extra adapter needed.
  • The Zap draws all needed power directly from your smart meter - no external power supply needed.

Example of meters with Standard P1 port (RJ12):

2. RJ45 Connection (8-pin) HAN/NVE

  • Found on some smart meters. Common in Norway.
  • Requires Zap for RJ45-HAN/NVE Meters.
  • Standard network cables will not work.
  • Check your specific meter model for compatibility

How to Identify Your Connection Type

1. RJ12 Port (Standard P1)

  • Looks like a small telephone jack
  • Usually 6 pins
  • Often behind a small cover
  • Typically labeled as "P1" or "User Port"

2. RJ45 HAN/NVE Port

  • Looks like an ethernet port
  • 8 pins
  • May be labeled as "HAN" or "H1"
  • Check with your utility provider for compatibility

Important Notes

The Zap never requires external USB-C power

Ordering Guide
